What is Pilates and why practise it?

Pilates is a system of exercises created by Joseph Pilates in the first half of the 20th century. His method was first used for rehabilitation and physical conditioning, and from the 1990s it gained wide popularity — including among Hollywood actresses and other celebrities who valued it for keeping a strong, toned body and a healthy back. Pilates is not just physical exertion. At the heart of the method lie concentration, control, precision, breath, centring and flowing movement. These principles help you do the exercises consciously and learn to control your body better. Regular practice helps strengthen muscles, improve posture, coordination and mobility, and build the body's strength and stability. And Pilates suits people of different levels: the exercises can be adapted to physical possibilities and individual goals. It is precisely this blend of physical work, breath and conscious movement that made Pilates popular all over the world. In our classes we combine Pilates and yoga, which works more deeply not only on the body but also on your inner state.
